We Need Me-Time, Too

We are incredibly busy people. Like all of time. Personally, I can’t find time to take a breath. We are constantly walking and running and meeting and sitting and eating and writing and a million other things. I mean seriously. Think about the number of different places you were in this week alone. How many different things did you Google, write or read today? Even if it’s not directly related to a class you’re in or the big project at work, you are moving and thinking and learning all day long.We forget that while we do have to turn in our work to our boss and pick up our roommate and call our mom, we also have to take care of ourselves. I think it’s high-time we start giving ourselves as much attention and focus that we give everything else in our lives. If we aren’t happy, how can we expect to make anyone else happy? (I get that it’s a cheesy line but really. Take it to heart.)So I challenge you to do something just for yourself this weekend. I like to call them “Me-Time Activities.” Go out, or stay in, and do something that you love to do. It could be a guilty pleasure or just have been on the top of your to-do list for the past who knows how long. I mean truly, just for you. Not because you think your significant other would like it or because your friends think it’s cool. Not because it’s due in a week or you have to participate every few weeks to hit that goal weight. Do something that makes YOU happy. I have some suggestions. Take them or leave them, but I promise some are really fun.Me-Time Activities:

  1. Go shopping. (WARNING: If you aren’t a star on Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, this could get dangerous.)
  2. Get your nails done.
  3. Hit golf balls for a couple of hours.
  4. Buy a new book.
  5. Take a three-hour nap and don’t feel bad about it. (This might be my most commonly used me-time activity.)
  6. Go see that movie you’ve been wanting to see.
  7. Eat as much chocolate as humanly possible. (I start to hit a wall after Hershey’s Kiss number 15, but push on friends.)
  8. Text the person you’ve wanted to for the past month.
  9. Watch an entire series on Netflix. (Seriously, it can be done. I promise.)
  10. Dump the person who’s been hurting you for the past year.
  11. Start a blog.
  12. Beat Candy Crush. (LOL. Then teach me how.)
  13. Don’t text anyone back for the entire day.
  14. Get a giant fountain drink from the gas station. (They’re like 89 cents people. Such an under appreciated beverage.)
  15. Scream at the top of your lungs.
  16. Get a new candle. (They’re strangely therapeutic, actually.)
  17. Listen to your favorite song over and over and over and over.
  18. Stay up all night. (If that means 10pm for you then ROCK OUT.)
  19. Go get the biggest ice cream scoop available and go for the waffle cone.
  20. Write a letter to yourself and store it away for a while. (This is actually very fun.)
  21. Learn to bake something new.
  22. Go work out for as long (or little) as you want.
  23. Cook yourself a delicious dinner.
  24. Go and order anything off the dollar menu at McDonald’s. (For my friends and I that means 4-5 items. It’s a judgement call.)
  25. Clean out your closet.
  26. Reorganize your room. (Again, strangely therapeutic.)
  27. Get an old piece of furniture and redo it.
  28. Pick out a cool new case for your phone or computer.
  29. Read a good book.
  30. Learn something new, every hour.

Do you hate all of these things? Awesome, create your own Me-Time Activity! Whatever makes you happy, do it. Just for an hour or for the entire day or for the whole weekend. I know we are all busy and have deadlines to meet. (Seriously I have SO much to do this weekend it’s unreal.) But we all deserve a little fun now and then.Splurge on something for yourself for once. A little treat can go a long way. Happy Friday!
